Who will challenge the Tories’ links with antisemites?
Accusations of AS are one thing, provable support of AS and Islamophobia is quite another…
Last February the Polish ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS) passed a law outlawing accusations of complicity by Poles in the Holocaust. A month later the Polish Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Munich grave site of the Holy Cross Mountains Brigade, a Polish underground military unit who collaborated with Nazi Germany against communists during the Second World War.
That same month the Latvian National Alliance party took part in an annual event commemorating the Latvian Waffen-SS.
In Bulgaria, every February, the Bulgarian National Movement holds a march through the centre of Sofia to honour Hristo Lukov, an army general who led the pro-Nazi Union of National Legions during the war. The march ends next to the house where Lukov was assassinated by anti-fascist partisans.
What connects these three parties?
Apart from the fact that they also indulge in ultra-nationalism and xenophobia (including Islamophobic, anti-Roma and anti-refugee propaganda), theyβ¦

BBC not fit for purpose
I watched the #MarrΒ show for a few minutes this morning for the first time in ages. Len McCluskey was terrific but Marr was desperate to keep talking over him and failed miserably.Β The BBC at every point of contact in *every* political programme and the majority of social programmes and even some (alleged) comedy shows is a mouthpiece for anything but genuine left wing Labour.
There was a reason why the BBC was genuinely admired around the world. The current lot of jokers have sold that legacy down the river.

Straight as a die
On the one hand, mourning Albert Finney is such a sad thing. Watching Richard Farnsworth in The Straight Story is a curious balm. Two men who re wrote masculinity.

Dahn Sahf, innit.
We’re not in Holyhead anymore, Toto
For the last two evenings I have been billeted in some very (for me) swanky hotels in a place where, back in the day, was something of a stamping ground…
They say nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. I agree, it’s a thing of the past… But visiting long lost places is curiously satisfying.
I am here, of course, to celebrate the wedding of my god-daughter, Freya, and her fiance, David. Like Freya’s parents, Mawgan & Sue, they have been together from a very young age. Must be the genes xx.
It struck me that I have now known Mawgan over 40 years. Sue almost as long too…
I am currently esconsed in the Great Hall in Sonning. The room is amazing. The shower, bliss. I am currently sat in a ver funky bar / restaurant being the old fart propping up the bar. One of my many talents. The prices are eye-popping but it’s a rare treat, so.
Although I am on me tod, I am looking forward to seeing the Celtuc Cousins, heh, I wish Jill were here but even so I am signing all cards and gifts from us both.
Last night I was in Cantley House hotel which was just as nice but much quieter…
In this land of plenty, I wonder why a mutton dressed as lamb barkeep needs to pinch my change, all of 5pee…

Domestic Goddessing
On a mucky Saturday, I am being highly domesticated…
Just baking bread, that loaf I made last week was pretty good so I am going again with a tweak or two… If it looks presentable I may put a picture up.
As I do this, I have done laundry and have been trying different salad things. (Please note, I have endeavoured to do these two things as separately as possible).
I’m going to use some of that as a stir-fry later with chicken that I’m preparing now.
As I do this, I am listening to the footy as Brighton are away at Stoke. Brighton are currently leading 0-1 with an apparently amazeballs goal from Jose Izquierdo (again). Stoke playing better in the second half so hoping B&HAFC keep it cool.
Pootle pootle pootle.
Also, on a totally separate issue, I am enjoying (to a point) the Orville at the minute. I am thrilled that I have been sent a sneak preview of next weeks episode where a space dog goes on the rampage and tries to eat the Orville. (See pic).
Back soon π
Bugger… Shaquiri equalises for Stoke…

What makes an Anti-Semite?
I’m hesitant, usually, to get involved in discussions on religious hatred, I am not religious. I greatly admire people who practice their religion in good faith and will defend them if I possibly can.
I generally have very little time for any religion that bullies, kills, traduces, oppresses or denigrates anyone else. Loathe is not too strong a word. Similarly, Governments who carry out atrocities in the name of a religion, or do business over dead bodies in order to make a buck will never find a big enough rock to crawl under.Β I’m not sure the internet is big enough for me to have the room to express my disgust at the likes of May, Fox, IDS and rest at their fellating of the KSA regime. Christians and Muslims getting together to have a kill-fest in Yemen, ffs.
The current “outcry” over Antisemitism in the Labour party is a strange thing.Β Jeremy Corbyn is being vilified as an arch hater of Jews. When you look at his record and that of his family on their support of Jews, the very idea that this has any traction at all seems laughable.
When you dig a little deeper, a pattern emerges that seems to spring from something else he does, quite unashamedly. Support Palestine.Β The faction of the Labour party MP’s led by the likes of Tom Watson, Margaret Hodge et al, are very involved in a group called “Labour Friends of Israel”. And by Israel they actually mean the Israeli Government. What are the Israeli Government doing? Ask a Palestinian.Β No, that doesn’t mean Hamas get’s a free pass. They are arseholes as well, but how will you move forward? Israel, being better resourced and better able to protect itself, should be showing a lead. They never will under Netanyahu and many right-wing Jews are very happy indeed with that.
While IsraelΒ will even arm nazi groups abroadΒ and Tom Watson will happily acceptΒ money from the descendants of Oswald MosleyΒ Β then you surely have to ask what their agenda is.Β For me, if they want to support these people, jog on, but while people in this country are dying because of the Tories and LibDems and you purport to be on their side,Β you are betraying them for blood money and that is unconscionable.
This whole project to stop a Labour Government under Corbyn stinks of hypocrisy and if the likes of me can see it, it must be pretty fucking obvious.
Some people who articulates the whole sorry mess far better than me areΒ Jonathan OfirΒ and Independent Jewish Voices. To name but two…
